Does Medicare Cover Cancer Treatment?

Treatment options for cancer

If you have cancer, you will have to get closer to your doctor to discuss and agree on an effective treatment plan. This will majorly depend on your type of cancer and its severity. However, treatment options for any kind of cancer will include one or more of the following:

  • Chemotherapy: This involves your doctor administering chemicals orally or intravenously to help kill cancer cells and stop them from spreading.
  • Surgery: Surgeries are done to remove cancerous tumours
  • Radiation therapy: This involves the use of intense beams of energy to kill cancerous cells
  • Hormone therapy: This treatment is done on cancers that use hormones to grow. It involves the use of synthetic hormones and hormone blockers.
  • Genetic therapy: This treatment option is new. It involves delivering a virus to a cancerous cell to destroy the cell.
  • Immunotherapy: Your doctor will administer some drugs that help use your immune system to attack cancer cells.

Some of the treatment options may already be covered by your Medicare. There is also the holistic therapy treatment, which includes dietary changes, oils, supplements, and natural extracts.
