Bacterial or Viral Infections

One of the greatest fears most dog owners have is their dog being diagnosed with parvovirus. [2] This is virus is also called parvo, it is highly contagious and causes damage to the puppy’s immune system. It leads to severe diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, anorexia, [3] fever and sluggishness.
Treatment given to the puppy involves supportive care to assist the puppy fight the infection and main symptoms. A puppy that has parvo will be admitted to the hospital for intravenous fluids (to prevent dehydration), drugs and round-the-clock supervision from her veterinary doctors. Parvovirus can lead to death, especially if the treatment started late.
Puppies have more fragile immune systems than adult dogs, making them at a higher risk of having bacterial infections. Salmonella, [4] E coli, [5] clostridium [6] and other bacteria can cause puppy diarrhea.
Ingestion
Puppies consume things they are not supposed to, from garbage to poisonous plants. Ingesting garbage filled with food can lead to puppy diarrhea.
