What Is Oolong Tea?
Oolong tea is a traditional tea originated from China. It is made from the leaves of the same plant used for making black tea and green tea, known as the Camellia sinensis plant. The difference lies in how it is processed. In general, teal leaves are loaded with several enzymes that lead to oxidation. This chemical reaction turns the leaves of green tea into a deep black tone. While the process of oxidization is minimized in green tea, it is maximized in black tea until the drink turns black. On the other hand, oolong tea is partially oxidized. This contributes to the characteristic taste and color of this type of tea. However, the actual color of oolong tea leaves can vary from dark brown to green, depending on the brands.
