Diabetes affects the balance of LDL (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol) in the body as individuals with the condition have LDL particles that stick to the walls of arteries and damage the walls of cells easily. Excess glucose build up occurs as a result of diabetes and these glucose particles attach themselves to lipoproteins thereby sugar coating LDL. These sugar coated LDL particles stay longer in the body for long periods and aid the formation of plaque. This occurrence boosts the possibility of developing artery [5] or heart disease which can be quite severe or fatal.
