Corticosteroid Injection

This treatment is highly recommended for women with hair loss due to alopecia areata. It involves the injection of corticosteroids to multiple sites in the affected area. It is a fast treatment, so you may start to see result as soon as four weeks. You are supposed to visit your doctor every four weeks to six weeks to repeat treatment. Some side effects may include skin atrophy and a thinning of a scalp skin. The drug is also in topical form and oral form but it may not be as effective.

Spironolactone

Spironolactone, also known as Aldactone, is a drug that works to treat hair loss by addressing hormones. It works by binding to androgen receptor and decreases the body’s processing of testosterone. However, it has not been fully labeled as a treatment for androgenic alopecia. You should discuss with your doctor about its benefit before using it.
