Overnight Treatment
You can apply certain hair products and leave them overnight with a shower cap on to smother the insects and eliminate them. Common smothering products include vaseline, olive oil, butter, or mayonnaise. Covering your hair with a shower cap after applying helps to suffocate the lice and kill them during sleep hours.
It takes careful and thorough cleaning to completely get rid of head lice infestation. It is advisable to repeat these steps daily or at least every 2 to 3 days. You can stop treatment when there are no more traces of the parasite for three days in a row. Also, check the hair of everyone in the house at least twice a week to ensure it hasn’t transferred from the infected person’s scalp to other persons.
