7 Main Causes of Seizures

Head Injuries

Trauma or injury to the head can impair normal brain function. Most people who have traumatic brain injuries will never have seizures, but some people do. In these cases, seizures often happen within the first couple of days, weeks or months following the injury. Trauma that causes bleeding between the skull and brain may cause a person to experience seizures.

According to a recent study [7], seizures affect 65 percent of people with brain injuries caused by bullet wounds. It also affects more than 60 percent of people with brain injuries requiring at least two surgeries. The seizures often happen as a result of scar tissue in the brain caused by the injury. In some people, these seizures will continue throughout their lives.
