Chronic Inflammation: What Is It, Causes, Treatment & Prevention

Difference between acute and chronic inflammation

Acute inflammation and chronic inflammation are the two types of inflammation. What then is the difference between the two?

Acute inflammation

This is the response to sudden body damage, such as a cut on your finger or hand. To heal the cut your body sends inflammatory cells to the injury. These are the cells that start the healing process.

Signs of acute inflammation can appear within hours or days, depending on the cause. In some cases that can rapidly become severe. The way they develop and how long they last will depend on certain factors, such as the cause, the part of the body they affect and individual factors.
