Chronic Inflammation: What Is It, Causes, Treatment & Prevention

Is inflammation painful?

Acute inflammation can cause different types of pain. The pain may be consistent and steady, stabbing, throbbing and pulsating, or pinching.

You start to feel pain when the buildup of fluids leads to swelling, and the swollen tissue puts pressure on sensitive nerve endings.

There are also some biochemical processes that occur during inflammation. They can have an effect on how the nerves behave and contribute to pain.
