Epsom Salt Detox: Benefits and How It Works

How to Make an Epsom Salt Bath

Follow this guide to make an Epsom salt bath:

  • Measure two cups of Epsom salt for a standard-size bathtub with warm water (between 101.5 to 102.5°F) (38.6 to 38.8°C)
  • Pour the salt under the water spout. This is so that the salt can dissolve faster and mix well. The water mixture should feel soapy.
  • Soak yourself into tub for minimum 12 minutes (or 20, for constipation).

For added aromatherapy benefits [3], add essential oils like peppermint, lavender, or tee tree to your bath (ensure to always perform a patch test before trying new essential oil). Or take more than 20 minutes to relax some more and enjoy some personal time.

For smaller application, you can make an Epsom salt paste. To use the salt on specific areas, you can make a paste with a small amount of salt and water and spread over the affected parts of the body.

You can get Epsom salt from at a grocery store, health food store, or online. Do not use Epsom salt in hot tubs, tubs with jet, and jet pools unless the manufacturer says it is okay.
