Health Benefits of Lysine

Boots Wound Healing and Helps with Anxiety

Lysine is needed to form collagen, a protein that plays a critical role in wound healing.

An animal study [6] found that lysine and arginine were able to speed up the healing of fractures in animals given a combination of the two compounds. This finding was backed by another animal study [7] where lysine and arginine were found to reduce healing time by two weeks compared to animals that did not receive lysine and arginine.

These findings point to the fact that lysine is important in wound healing.

Stress plays a critical role in triggering anxiety. Research suggests that lysine’s ability to block stress response receptors may be useful in reducing anxiety.

A study with 50 healthy participants [8] found that oral treatment with 2.64 grams of lysine and arginine was effective in reducing stress-induced anxiety and the levels of cortisol, a stress hormone.  Similar success was also recorded in highly stressed male participants supplemented with 4.2 grams [9] of lysine.
