Botulism & Shigella

Botulism is one of the most severe cases of food poisoning. It is mostly linked with improperly canned vegetables or cured pork and ham. Experts believe that it synthesizes a neurotoxin that leads to paralysis. Asides from paralysis, other symptoms of botulism include inability to swallow, weakness, vomiting [5], nausea, and body aches. If treatment is not received on time, the symptoms may worsen and eventually lead to death.
Meats are the most common cause of food poisoning. However, with shigella, food poisoning is usually caused by vegetables. It is mostly related to breakdowns in food safety. Transmission of shigella is mostly linked with an infected person who transmits the bacteria to another person due to bad hygiene practices. According to experts, flies may play a significant role in the transmission of the condition. Symptoms of shigella include bloody stools [6] and cramps.
