Precautions for Licorice

There are certain things to take note of before using licorice. You should not use this product if you are allergic to licorice, or if you have:

  • Past or present cancer of the breast, uterus or ovary
  • Low levels of potassium in your blood (hypokalemia)
  • A history of endometriosis or uterine fibroids

Consult a doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional to find out if using this product is safe for you, especially if you have:

  • Kidney disease
  • Heart disease
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Hypertension [3]
  • Nerve-muscle disorders
  • High salt diet.

It is probably safe to use licorice in food products or as a flavoring ingredient when pregnant. On the other hand, consuming a lot of licorice while pregnant could raise your chance of miscarriage or early labor. Do not use this product if you are pregnant.

It is unknown if licorice damages a nursing infant or if it finds its way into breast milk. This product should not be used if you are nursing a baby.
