Licorice – Uses, Side Effects, and More

How to Use Licorice

If you’re thinking about taking herbal supplements, consult your physician. Another option would be to speak with a professional who has received training in using herbal remedies and health supplements.

Take licorice according to the directions on the container or as prescribed by your physician, pharmacist or other healthcare professional, if you decide to take it. Use only the amount of this product as directed on the label.

Take caution when combining different forms of licorice (powder, root, extract, liquid, teas, etc.) without first consulting a doctor. Combining multiple formulas raises the possibility of overdosing.

Topical (for the skin) licorice should not be taken orally. Only the skin should be used to apply topical forms of this medication.

If you are going to have surgery, stop taking licorice at least 2 weeks ahead of time. Call your doctor if the condition you are treating with licorice does not improve, or if it worsens while using this product.

Store at room temperature away from moisture, light and heat.
