Side Effects of Licorice

If you have any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, trouble breathing, or swelling in your lips, tongue, or throat, get emergency medical attention.
For short periods of time (no more than 4 weeks), licorice is regarded to be probably safe, while not all adverse effects are known.
Serious adverse effects could result from licorice usage over time. Stop using this product and call your healthcare provider if you have:
- Weakness, loss of ability to move any body part
- High blood pressure that results in symptoms like severe headache, blurred vision, ear or neck pain, nosebleeds, anxiety, and shortness of breath
- Symptoms of a brain disorder, such as disorientation, memory issues, hallucinations, strange thoughts or behavior, decreased alertness, or loss of consciousness
- Low potassium, which manifests as confusion, irregular heart rate, intense thirst, increased urine, leg soreness, muscle weakness, or limb sensation
Common side effects could be:
- Headache, fatigue
- Irregular menstruation
- Fluid retention (edema, sudden weight gain)
- Male sexual dysfunction (lack of desire, impotence, difficulty experiencing an orgasm)
