After the biopsy

Once the biopsy is done and the sample is extracted. Pressure is applied to the insertion site to help control any bleeding. Once the bleeding stops, the site is bandaged. If an incision was made, your doctor might need to stitch it. A typical lung needle biopsy is completed in an hour.

The tissue sample will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

Risks of a lung needle biopsy

As long as your lung needle biopsy is conducted by the right specialist and in the right environment, you can worry less about any risks. However, as with any procedure, there are still some possible risks, such as:

  • Infection
  • Coughing up blood
  • Collapsed lungs
