Morning Sickness: When It Starts, Treatment, and Prevention

Effects of Morning Sickness on Your Baby and How to Prevent Morning Sickness

Mild or moderate nausea or vomiting during pregnancy does not have any negative effects on the baby. However, it may become worse if you get dehydrated or lose weight. If left untreated, severe nausea and vomiting can stop you from getting the nutrition you need and as a result, reduce the nutrients your baby gets.

Follow these tips to prevent morning sickness or reduce nausea:

  • Ventilate your home and workspace to eliminate scents that make you nauseous
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take naps
  • Avoid cigarette smoke
  • Avoid spicy foods
  • Drink water before and after meals
  • Eat small meals
  • Avoid fatty foods
  • Take vitamins at night

If you still experience morning sickness after practicing these preventive measures, it would help to speak with your doctor immediately. It is also important to talk to your doctor before you start using drugs or alternative remedies.
