Morning Sickness: When It Starts, Treatment, and Prevention

Tests for Morning Sickness

Your doctor may recommend some tests to know if you and your baby are safe. The type of test your doctor recommends depends on your symptoms. Some of these tests include:

  • Urine tests: Urine tests will help detect dehydration.
  • Blood chemistry tests: Your doctor may order blood chemistry tests such as:
    1. complete blood count (CBC)
    2. comprehensive metabolic panel
    3. comprehensive metabolic panel (Chem-20), to measure the electrolytes in your blood.

Doctors recommend these tests to know if you are:

  • Ultrasound
  • Malnourished, or deficient in certain vitamins
  • Anemic
  • Dehydrated

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images of your baby. The doctor then observes these images and sounds to know if your baby is healthy.
