Bad hygiene can be traced to several things. If you are trying to figure out what causes bad hygiene or you are lacking in your hygiene habits, there are a lot of things to consider.

It is important to take your hygiene seriously. Although some supposed bad hygiene traits are NBD, such as peeing in the shower, for example.

Poor hygienic traits should not be ignored as they can be harmful and traced to some even more serious health issues.

Importance of Hygiene

Overlooking your hygiene might not seem like a big deal, and it may not be if we are talking about the occasional day you don’t brush your teeth until noon. But it matters when it affects your life or that of the people around you.

Continuous lack of proper hygiene in most cases can breed disease that can affect you it others. It is usually a result of the pile of bacteria.

A common example of bad hygiene that can lead to disease is, not washing your hands after you use the toilet or touch dirty surfaces. This can lead to the spread of bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Thereby leading to Infections and diseases such as food poisoning, gastroenteritis [1], cold and flu, and hepatitis A [2]. Poor dental hygiene can lead to tooth decay and gum disease, which can lead to complications like certain heart conditions.

Daily and regular baths are major hygienic traits. Noth bathing can result in some skin conditions such as dermatitis neglecta [3] and secondary Infections [4].

Lack of hygiene can also affect a person’s work and social life. It can lead to body odor or mouth odor which makes it difficult for people to stay around you. Some companies have a hygiene policy in place for the protection of employees and company image, especially if you have a public-facing role. Proper hygiene is very necessary for certain jobs. For example, if you work in the food industry or healthcare, a lack of proper hygiene would be putting everyone you come in contact with in danger.
