Glossitis and Mouth Ulcers

Glossitis is a medical condition that describes an inflamed tongue. Individuals with glossitis may observe that the tongue experiences a change in shape and color, making it red, swollen, and very painful. Due to inflammation, the tongue may appear smooth.
The tongue’s surface’s smoothness is happening because the tiny bumps on the tongue containing the taste buds stretch and disappear with time. Glossitis is a condition that could change the way a person eats or speaks.
According to research [5], it has been proven that an inflamed tongue with straight lesions can be a significant early symptom of vitamin B12 deficiency. Individuals with B12 deficiency may also experience oral signs like mouth ulcers and burning or itching sensations.
