What signs or symptoms indicate elevated bilirubin?

The underlying cause of your high bilirubin will determine your symptoms. Mildly elevated bilirubin levels might exist without any symptoms at all.

Only jaundice, which is a yellowish tint in your eyes and skin, may be present with relatively high bilirubin levels. High bilirubin levels are mostly indicated by jaundice.

Other general indications of diseases that result in elevated bilirubin include:

  • weakness
  • fever
  • swollen abdomen
  • lightheadedness
  • fatigue
