What Causes High Bilirubin Levels?

Hepatitis develops when the liver is inflamed, frequently as a result of a viral infection. When your liver is inflamed, it struggles to handle bilirubin, which causes a buildup of it in your blood.

Although symptoms of hepatitis are not always present, when they are, they may include:

  • fatigue
  • black urine
  • stomach pain
  • nausea, and vomiting
