Why Wine Causes a Hangover and How to Handle It?

How to Handle It?

Hangovers are the body’s way of telling us that we have had too much wine and we are being punished. There are several ways that have proven to help handle hangover, they include:

Hair of the Dog

Drinking to reduce the symptoms of hangover is called taking the hair of the dog or hair of the dog that bit you. The idea behind this is, people believe hangovers are a form of alcohol withdrawal, so more wine will reduce the withdrawal. Red wine and sedatives such as benzodiazepines [4] and diazepam (valium) interacts with GABA receptors on brain cells. People experience withdrawal symptoms from short-lived sedatives as they wear off, the brain reacts the same way when blood alcohol levels begin to drop.

However, doctors advise people not to use this method because it just elongates a cycle, it prevents recovery.
