Before taking brilliant, you must tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have other allergies. The drug may contain certain ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction. You can discuss this with your pharmacist for more details.
Your doctor or pharmacist should also be informed about your medical history, especially some specific problems such as:
- Bleeding in the brain
- Gout
- Liver disease
- Heart problem
- Hemophilia [5]
A common side effect of the drug is that it makes you dizzy. It is highly advised that you do not drive, use machinery, or perform any activity that requires alertness until you can safely do it. You should also avoid alcohol if you are using this drug as it can cause complications in your condition. Brilinta can cause stomach bleeding. Daily intake of alcohol while using this medicine will increase your risk of stomach bleeding.
While using this drug, you should use caution with sharp objects like knives and razors and avoid activities that require you to be in your full capacity, such as contact sports. This will help lower your chances of getting injured, bruised, or other health complications.
If you are going to have surgery, you should tell your doctor about all the medications you are currently using. Your doctor may recommend that you temporarily halt the intake of ticagrelor at least five days before surgery or a dental procedure. Follow your doctor’s instructions on when to stop and start your medication.
Extra caution is also needed when taking brilinta if you are pregnant. Discuss with your doctor the risk and benefits. Your doctor will decide if it is safe to use or not.
