Interactions with Other Drugs

Bupropion interactions with other drugs can reduce the effectiveness of the drug and can increase the risk of side effects. Some drugs that interact with bupropion in codeine, thioridazine, and pimozide. Taking (monoamine oxidase) [7] MAO inhibitors such as phenelzine, selegiline, metaxalone, sulfonamide with bupropion can cause a fatal interaction. MAO inhibitors should be taken either two weeks before or after this medication. This is a list of some drugs should be avoided while taking this medication:

  • Antidepressants – sertraline, fluoxetine, paroxetine
  • Beta – blockers – metoprolol
  • Theophylline
  • Levodopa and amantadine
  • Blood thinner drugs – ticlopidine
  • Antiarrhythmic – flecainide
  • Antipsychotics – risperidone, haloperidol
