Femara(Letrozole): Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & More

Ferama as a Medication for Infertility

Generally, Ferama is not always prescribed to treat infertility in women. It can only be used off-label [5] to treat infertility caused by problems with ovulation. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) [6] is a major issue that might prevent the production of eggs which leads to infertility. When Femara is used off-label it can help solve this situation.

The normal effect of Femara is to lower estrogen levels in the body. This effect alerts the pituitary gland and causes it to release Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) [7] and Luteinizing Hormone (LH) [8] which aids the process of ovulation. This process is called ovulation induction.

Using this drug as a treatment for infertility may also cause some side effects. They include:

  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome
  • Ovarian cyst
  • Tenderness of the breast
  • Mood swings

Ferama should not be the first medication to try when you have problems with ovulation. Even your doctor might not prescribe it for you. So it is important that you do not self medicate with it.
