You must tell your pharmacist or doctor about your medical history before using the drug. If you have ever experienced conditions, such as high blood pressure, liver problems [2], overactive thyroid [3] (hyperthyroidism), kidney problems [4], increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma), difficulty urinating caused by enlarged prostate, and stomach or intestine disorders like ulcer [5] blockage.

Hydroxyzine may result in a disorder that alters the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). When the heart rhythm is altered, it rarely results in severe irregular or rapid heartbeat and other signs like fainting, and dizziness that require urgent medical attention.

Your chances of experiencing QT elongation may increase if you have certain illnesses or if you use other medications that can alter your heart rhythm. You must tell your doctor if you have a history of any of these medical conditions:

  • Slow heartbeat [6]
  • QT prolongation in the EKG
  • Family history of health conditions, like sudden cardiac death, and QT prolongation in the EKG

Your chances of having QT elongation is increased if you have Low levels of magnesium or potassium. You may also become more prone to the condition if you take certain medications like water pills or diuretics. Illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating also makes you more prone to QT elongation.

Hydroxyzine may induce drowsiness, dizziness, or blur your vision. Marijuana (cannabis) or Alcohol can also induce drowsiness or dizziness. You must stay away from driving or handling any tool that requires mental alertness when using the medication. Also, stay away from alcoholic beverages. You should tell your doctor if you use marijuana.

Your doctor should know about all the drugs you are taking, including herbal products, nonprescription drugs, and prescription drugs.
