How to Use Nabumetone and Dosage of It

When taking nabumetone, your dosage, drug form, and how often you use the drug will be based on:
- Your age
- The condition being treated
- The severity of your condition
- Other health issues you have
- How you react to the first dose
- Your weight
Dosage for osteoarthritis
Adults dosages (ages 18 years and older)
- Usual starting dosage: 1,000 mg per day. You can take it once a day or twice a day.
- Dosage increases: Your doctor may decide to increase your dosage if necessary, to 1,500–2,000 mg per day.
- Maximum dosage: 2,000 mg per day.
Child dosage (ages 0–17 years)
Nabumetone should not be prescribed for children below 18 years.
Dosage for rheumatoid arthritis
Adult dosage (ages 18 years and older)
- Usual starting dosage: 1,000 mg per day. You can divide it into two doses or take it once per day.
- Dosage increases: Your healthcare provider may increase your dosage to 1,500–2,000 mg per day if necessary.
- Maximum dosage: 2,000 mg per day.
Child dosage (ages 0–17 years)
Nabumetone should not be given to children younger than 18 years, as its effects on children have not been appropriately studied.
