If you are taking Nabumetone oral tablet, you should be aware of these warnings:
Allergy warning
It would be best to avoid this drug if you experience allergic reactions to aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). You should speak with your health care provider if you’re confused about your allergy risk.
Health conditions
Nabumetone may increase the risk of having ulcers or bleeding from the stomach or intestines. You must be careful when using this drug if you have a history of ulcers or bleeding. Your chances of having an ulcer increase if you:
- Smoke cigarettes
- Drink alcohol
- Are old
- Have a history of stomach ulcers or stomach or intestinal bleeding with NSAIDs.
If you have any heart disease, Nabumetone can increase your chances of experiencing a heart attack, stroke [4], and high blood pressure. You should use it carefully if you have heart disease or are at risk of having one. Some risk factors are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes [5], cigarette smoking, family history of heart disease, obesity [6] and being a postmenopausal woman.
Nabumetone can increase fluid retention and exacerbate heart failure. Asthmatic patients are advised to avoid Nabumetone because it increases allergic reactions.
Scientists describe Nabumetone as a pregnancy category C drug. This means:
- Studies in animals have discovered adverse effects on the fetus when the mother uses it.
- Enough research has not been done on humans to validate its effects.
Even though enough studies have not been done, doctors are strongly warned by the FDA to not prescribe Nabumetone to pregnant women, especially at a late stage. If you’re pregnant and need treatment for rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, talk to your doctor for advice on other effective treatment methods.
