What is Prednisone?

Prednisone is a corticosteroid drug used to reduce inflammation and keep an overactive immune system in check. It is used to treat allergic disorders, asthma, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease [1], chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ulcerative colitis, and many other conditions.

Prednisone comes in various forms which are; immediate-release tablet, delayed-release tablet, and liquid forms. These three forms can be taken orally (by mouth). It can be prescribed to patients with a significantly low level of corticosteroids. It works by replacing steroids that are usually produced in the body.
