Interactions with Other Drugs

Interactions between drugs show either the drug is working or it is increasing the risk of side effects.it is very important to notify your medical personnel of any medication you have been using before you start taking tramadol.

  • Certain agonist-antagonist such as naltrexone, butorphanol, samidorphan, nalbulphine interact with tramadol.
  • MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidase) cause fatal interaction when taken with this medication. MAO inhibitors should not be taken two weeks before the usage of this drug and they should not be used for at least two weeks after the usage of this medication.
  • Usage of Street drugs like St. John’s wort, and fluoxetine along with this treatment increases the serotonin level in the body and causes serotonin syndrome which can be fatal.
  • Taking other drugs containing opioids like marijuana, codeine, and hydrocodone can increase the risk of severe drowsiness and dizziness.
  • Medications such as rifamycins, quinidine, HIV [3] drugs (ritonavir), and antifungals (itraconazole) affect the removal of tramadol in the body and can affect how the medication works.
