Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

Overview

This refers to a series of emotional and physical signs that begins a week or two weeks before the monthly menstrual flow. This condition includes irritability, depression, and tension symptoms, it can be said to be the extended and severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) [1]. It also occurs when the hormones start to fluctuate 5-11 days before menstruation because in most cases the symptoms stop as soon as your period begins or shortly after.

This disorder affects day-to-day activities and may involve lifestyle changes in order to correct it. The difference between this disorder and PMS is the effects on the mental health of the person. Also, this condition makes it difficult to socialize and have a healthy relationship, and sometimes suicidal thoughts may begin if not diagnosed and attended to properly.
