How to Identity Asthma – Signs and Symptoms

Wheezing

Wheezing is a persistent, rough whistling sound made by the airways during the process of breathing. It occurs when there’s a narrowing of the respiratory tract usually by inflammation or obstruction.

There are several causes of wheezing in the airways. However, when it becomes recurrent the most likely cause is Asthma. When children persistently wheeze during exhalation, this is a telltale sign of Asthma in children.

Shortness of Breath

This occurs as a feeling of not having the ability to breathe well. In medical parlance, it is called dyspnea. People with this condition can’t seem to take in enough air into their lungs. It is normal to have a shortness of breath when you exert yourself heavily. However, it becomes a problem when you experience this randomly or in little exertion.
