Malaria Signs & Symptoms

Fatigue

Malaria infection means that the red blood cells are under attack, leading to muscle weakness and respiratory distress. Infected persons are usually on bed rest because of severe fatigue that rids [5] the body of strength to carry out normal daily activities.

The destruction of the erythrocytes by the parasite can cause severe anemia. Anemia is the deficiency of red blood cells to carry adequate amounts of oxygen to the necessary points in the body. This shortage of oxygen in the blood leaves the patient feeling drowsy, weak, and lightheaded.
