- TNF Inhibitors

These medications inhibit the activity of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) [5], a special protein made by the immune system. TNF is a proinflammatory cytokine that is important in fighting pathogens. Common TNF inhibitors include infliximab (Remicade), adalimumab (Humira), and certolizumab pegol (Cimzia).
Antibiotics
Some doctors believe that antibiotics [6] are effective in alleviating some symptoms of this condition. Antibiotics do this by reducing harmful bacteria in your gut that may cause the immune system to trigger inflammation or lead to the development of abscesses and fistulas. A fistula is an abnormal passageway between organs. These drugs reduce the drainage from these abscesses fistulas, helping them heal. Doctors often prescribe ciprofloxacin (Cipro) or metronidazole (Flagyl) to help with this.
