Clot Busters

Clot busters are also called thrombolytics. They are mostly used for life threating blood clots and if other methods are not working. They are administered through intravenous or a tube (catheter) placed straight into the clot in the leg (they are not administered by any other method). they are known to cause severe bleeding, so doctors only prescribe them for people with severe blood clots. Clot blusters work by dissolving blood clots. doctors use the following clot busters; alteplase, anistreplase, prourokinase, tenecteplase reteplase, streptokinase and urokinase.
