Pterygiums or Pinguiculas

Pterygium is also known as “surfer’s eye.” It is a harmless growth that happens in the clear covering of your eye. It usually appears as a wedge.
You may experience symptoms like:
- Redness
- Blurred vision
- Eye irritation
A pinguecula has similar properties as pterygium. They can also result in watering and burning in one eye. They are benign growths that occur on the conjunctiva, which is the thin layer of tissue that covers the white portion of your eye.
Pterygiums and pingueculas mostly cause redness in one eye. There are usually no extra symptoms. Large Pterygiums may affect your vision.
Your doctor may recommend eye drops for you if the symptoms worsen. In severe cases, you may need surgery to remove the growth. Experts advise people to always wear sunglasses outside and use eye drops as prescribed to prevent pterygiums (or pingueculas)
