Keratitis: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

Diagnosis of keratitis

Any keratitis symptoms should be looked into as soon as they are detected. For you to receive treatments before your condition worsens or complications arise, your doctor will need to make a diagnosis and determine the best treatment option for you.

Your doctor will first ask you about the history of your symptoms before taking a check at your eyes to see if you have keratitis. They will assist you in opening your eye if it is sealed shut due to infection so they may thoroughly examine the cornea.

During the examination, a slit lamp or penlight may be employed. A slit light magnifies the inside eye structures so your doctor can see any keratitis-related damage up close. You can check your pupil with a penlight to see if there have been any odd changes. To aid your doctor in searching for any more changes, a stain may be put to the surface of your eyes.

Your doctor might ask for blood work to rule out an infection. To pinpoint the precise origin of the keratitis, they will either take a sample from the cornea or from the tears.

An eye chart may be used by your doctor to check your eyesight.
