5 Symptoms of Foot Neuropathy

Loss of Balance and Difficulty Walking

The effect of diabetic peripheral neuropathy [5] may be walking with a wobbly motion or even totally losing your balance. This is usually corrected by wearing orthopedic shoes. A typical symptom of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is lack of coordination. Muscle weakness also affects the ankle, which may impact the gait. Numbness in the feet can also lead to balance loss.

Autonomic Manifestation

If the peripheral never affected in foot neuropathy are autonomic nerves, it may lead to a number of autonomic dysfunction [6]. Some of the most commonly associated signs are, difficulty swallowing, vaginal dryness, erectile dysfunction [7], inability of the body to adjust blood pressure and heart rate, leading to sudden drops in blood pressure (e.g. when suddenly trying to stand up), increased or decreased sweating, constipation [8], changes in the way the eyes adjust to a light or dark environment, and problems with regulating body temperature.
