Chronic Venous Failure
Edema frequently results from chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) [2]. Although it can happen elsewhere, CVI is a disorder that typically impacts the valves in the leg veins. CVI can cause discomfort and agony. The skin may also undergo obvious changes as a result.
Typically, these valves ensure that blood moves toward the heart. When there is CVI, the valves fail, allowing blood to flow backward and pool in the ankles and lower legs. A medical professional can assist someone with CVI in creating a unique treatment strategy.
Some therapy possibilities include, as examples:
- using compression socks to treat skin sores and reduce swelling
- avoiding extended periods of sitting or standing
- raising the legs to increase blood flow
- walking or performing calf muscle-building workouts
- undergoing ablation, which destroys diseased veins using heat or chemicals
