The diagnosis of the pathology (or disease) underlying foot pain is made by the orthopedic doctor (specialist in orthopedics), taking into account the patient’s clinical history, the objective examination, and the results of several complementary means of diagnosis.

Comparing the affected side to the uninjured side is a reasonable general guideline. Injury can present itself at that location as a recognizable lump or gap or a “crunchy” feeling caused by inflammation at that position. The causes, types, and severity are also useful measures of the seriousness of the injury.

To decide how you developed the issue, the doctor will ask you some questions. Informing the doctor exactly how and why it happened, how it affects you, when it hurts you, what you may or may not have done to make the pain better or worse may be helpful.
