Symptoms of Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Stiffness/Rigidity & Difficulty Concentrating

Stiffness [6], usually common and diffuse, is reported by many patients. This stiffness can get worse when one has been in the same position for a long period of time. The stiffness is typically worst in the morning and can improve as the day progresses, as is characteristic of other rheumatic illnesses.  It is usually worsened the day after strenuous exercise or activity. Stiffness can also lead to muscle spasm especially when you try to contract or use it forcefully.

Difficulties with concentrating [7], paying close attention, and remembering new knowledge are often referred to as “fibro fog” or “brain fog.”  Individuals can even have difficulty finding the correct words when they speak or experience brief memory loss. Such cognitive problems tend to occur more when the person feels exhausted, depressed, or nervous. The loss of sharpness differs from individual to individual, and may last for hours, days, or even longer. For certain individuals, the issue may be serious enough to impact job efficiency. If the disability is serious, driving may become unsafe and dangerous.
