Food Options for Gallbladder: Allowed and Avoid Foods List

Here are five foods [5] that are known to trigger gallbladder attack; hence, it is best to avoid them.

Fried Foods, Full-Fat Dairy and Red Meat

Steer clear of high-fat foods like fried and greasy foods and fatty sauces and gravies for up to a week or more after undergoing GB removal surgery. Instead, choose healthier alternatives to fat-free or low-fat foods. Also, researchers have found that people who consume red and processed meats, and eggs as a daily diet have a higher risk of developing gallstones or other GB problems.

Full-fat dairy products include whole milk, cream, ice cream, sundaes, cheese, cream cheese, and milkshakes. Research has shown that the type of fat you eat determines your level of risk of developing gallstones. The most unhealthy type of fats you can take are saturated fats, and these are found in full-fat dairy products like whole milk. They may promote the formation of gallstones.

Opt for lean white meats like chicken if you want to maintain a healthy gallbladder. Red meat (beef, mutton, pork, veal, and goat) is packed with unsaturated fats, which are unhealthy for you and can damage your gallbladder overtime. The green substance in the GB, known as bile helps the body digest fats. Sticking to a diet that consists mainly of fats, especially saturated or trans fats exerts too much strain on this organ.
