Iridotomy

Similar to trabeculoplasty, iridotomy [4] deals with using a laser device to effectively treat primary angle-closure glaucoma. In the surgical procedure, the laser device is used to create a hole in the patient’s eye. This hole creation enables the aqueous humor to extend from the posterior to the anterior chamber, which results in relieving blockages.

Aside from treating primary angle-closure glaucoma, the procedure is useful for treating secondary-angle glaucoma and other related conditions. Before performing LPI (Laser Peripheral Iridotomy), the doctor would check for contraindications. These contraindications include (but are not limited to) very shallow or flat anterior chambers, uveitis, corneal edema, and chamber inflammation.
