Elevation

The elevation is the last element of the RICE (Rest Ice Compression Elevation) formula. It involves elevating the affected ligament to reduce the effort needed by the surrounding muscles and cardiovascular system to aid circulation. This helps reduce symptoms of swelling and pain in the affected ligament. If you are experiencing pains in your achilles or ankle tendon, you can try elevating it on the couch for a few hours. You can also lie as flat as possible to boost circulation and supply of oxygenated blood to the affected area of the ligament. For example, you can sit on the couch and raise it while lying flat if you have a problem with your ankle.
