Hot Flashes Signs & Symptoms

Flushing

This is the temporal and sudden reddening of a person’s skin. Flushing usually affects a person’s neck or face. It is often confused as blushing, and it can be a symptom of anxiety and hot flashes. [3] Flushing may also accompany anxiety and may be symptoms of other conditions. However, during a heat flash, a person may suddenly notice that their face, neck, and chest is reddening, alongside burning up. Although flushing may be characterized by a general change in temperature, fever, or even eating spicy food, it is also one of the most prominent symptoms of hot flashes.

Tachycardia

If your body suddenly becomes red and your temperature rises, you may likely panic and the next thing will be that your heart rate may rise in response to the sequence of unexpected events. Oftentimes during a hot flash, a person may experience a sudden and consistent increase in their heart rate. This is mostly because during a hot flash, a lot of activities are going on in your body at the same time and your heart is trying to respond to this sudden flow of activities by increasing the amount of blood it is pumping. Tachycardia is the medical term used to refer to a heart rate of over 100 beats per minute which is quite rare in normal cases but is not far-fetched for someone experiencing a hot flash. [4] A normal heart’s rate is 60-100 beats per minute, if your heart beats faster than that, then it may be due to sudden pressure, increased adrenaline, agitation, and anxiety which is quite common during a hot flash.
