What Is An Ophthalmoplegic Migraine?

Symptoms of RPON?

The most common symptom of RPON is pain that come and go. The episodes of pain vary in length, while some might last a few hours, others could linger for weeks. In some cases, RPON symptoms can become permanent.

You would usually experience the headache associated with RPON days or weeks, before you start to feel the weakness in the eye muscles.

Headaches sometimes can cause throbbing pain similar to migraine, but RPON headaches don’t always feel like migraine attacks. Some other symptoms of RPON include:

  • Weak muscles around the eye
  • Pain in the eyes
  • Double vision
  • Paralyzed muscles around the eyes
  • Nausea [2]
  • Vomiting
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Drooping upper eyelids
  • Pain in one side of the face
