Pain After Dental Implants: What’s Normal?

When the implant is not fitted properly

The pain you feel may be a result of the implant not fussing to the bone correctly. For this, your surgeon would have to remove and reattach the implant later on.

Incision line opening

This is the most common complication of any implant procedure. In a dental implant, it is when the tissue surrounding the rod reopens after surgery. This is usually due to the lack of proper care given to the area.

If the incision opens you may feel pain and experience irritation. Your oral surgeon will instruct you to wash your mouth regularly with a chlorhexidine [2] rinse or they may prescribe antibiotics for you to help avoid Infection.

Additional medical care may be necessary if the pain does not go away or reduces.

Infection

Bacterial may spread to the tissue where the surgery was done, resulting in an Infection. This can cause pain and cause the wound site to not heal.
