Is It Possible to Injure the Soft Palate?

Yes, it is. Injuries can occur on the soft palate, and it is usually as a result of having sharp objects in the mouth.

Some common injuries that can occur in the soft palate include:

  • Burns: Sensitive tissues in the mouth can burn if a hot food or liquid is placed in the mouth. A serious burn can cause blisters.
  • Cuts: Your soft palate can cut. If this happens, it may result in swelling and lumps.
  • Irritations: This may occur if your tissues are constantly rubbed by dentures and other devices. You may also develop lumps and scar tissue.
  • Impalement: Putting sticks, pens, pencils, and straws in the mouth can impale the soft palate. This can further result in bleeding and could be at risk of Infection.
