Procedures to Remove Bile Duct Obstructions

If the condition is chronic, the surgeon will undergo specific procedures that remove bile duct obstructions. Note that this applies to pancreatitis caused by a narrowed or blocked bile duct. One of the procedures is called endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography [3] (ERCP). ERCP involves the use of long tubes with a camera passed down through the throat. The camera in the tube is meant for sending pictures that show the digestive system for easy monitoring. ERCP is a procedure that can aid in diagnosing problems with the pancreatic duct and the bile duct. It’s also essential to make repairs to those problems. Please note that ERCP may cause acute pancreatitis as well, especially in adults. Bile duct obstruction can also be diagnosed through a blood test, ultrasonography, cholangiography, and biliary radionuclide scan. Bile duct obstructions can be prevented. Individuals should endeavor to increase dietary fiber and reduce the amount of sugar consumed. If an individual is overweight, it’s advisable to get the weight to a healthy range.
